4 MidState physicians to be honored in March

MERIDEN — MidState Medical Center has named four members of its medical staff to receive Physician Recognition Awards during a reception in March. They were nominated by their colleagues, staff members, patients and patients’ families.

The winners were announced at MidState’s December medical staff annual meeting.

Dr. Sherwin Borsuk will be honored with the Matthew Campione Community Service Award. Borsuk said he looked up to Campione, who mentored him when Borsuk moved to Meriden in 1978.

“I’m very proud to receive an award bearing Campione’s name,” Borsuk said. “He mentored me and got me involved at Masonicare,” in Wallingford, where Borsuk has served on the board of directors.

Over the years, Borsuk has served on several boards and committees, including MidState’s board of directors, pension committee, planning committee, pharmacy and therapeutic committee. He’s also served on the board of directors at the Visiting Nurse Association of Meriden board of directors and Masonicare.

He also chaired the project oversight committee that oversaw the construction of the Lewis Avenue hospital in the 1990s.

Dr. Howard Dubin will receive the Daniel Kahn Clinical Quality Award.

Dubin is MidState’s director of hospital service. He is also involved in medical and data management. He uses the data to improve processes of care. He said it’s quite exciting to be honored and there are a long line of physicians who have worked hard at MidState.

“I’m just glad to be one of them trying to promote better care,” Dubin said.

Dr. Aly Hemdan Abdalla will get the Joseph Goodman Clinical Collaboration and Teamwork Award and Dr. Rajani Nadkarni will be recognized with the David Park Leadership Award. They were not available for comment Tuesday.
