Lieutenant Governor Wyman Hails Breast Ultrasound Bill
RSC
President Jean Weigert hosted Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman and others at a
recent ceremony to recognize new legislation that limits patient co-pays for
breast ultrasound screenings. The bill (SB 10) was enacted in the past session
to limit the co-pays to $20 per procedure, the latest in a series of laws to
encourage appropriate testing for women who have dense breast tissue.
The event
was held at the Imaging Center of West Hartford on Friday, June 27. Two leading
advocates of the legislation, Sen. Joe Crisco and Rep. Sandy Nafis, attended as
did several patients.
The Lieutenant Governor, who in her prior career was an
x-ray technician, spoke about the need for more women to receive the life-saving
tests. Dr. Weigert also shared her most recent patient data that shows the
ultrasounds are catching small cancers that were missed by mammograms.
